What pressure washing — driveways & patios actually involves
What it is
A deep clean of driveways, patios, paths and paved areas using a Honda GX390 industrial pressure washer with a rotary surface cleaner. Optional re-sanding of joints and sealing to keep it looking new.
Who it's for
Homeowners with green, black or oil-stained paving, landlords getting properties ready for market, and commercial clients who need forecourts and paths presentable.
When you need it
When paving has gone green, when weeds have taken over the joints, or before selling the property — clean paving is one of the highest-value visual upgrades you can make.
Why do it properly
Rented DIY washers don't have the flow rate to actually clean deep paving grime, and hand-held lances leave stripes. A rotary surface cleaner is the only way to get a uniform, streak-free finish.
What happens if you leave it
Every job we quote for is easier — and cheaper — than the one that follows it. Here's what tends to happen when this gets ignored.
Weeds don't just look bad — they lift the paving
As weed roots grow between blocks they force the sand out of the joints and start pushing individual blocks up. Left long enough, you're not just cleaning the drive, you're re-laying sections of it.
Algae makes paving lethally slippery
The green film on shaded patios and paths isn't cosmetic — it's a slip hazard, especially in wet weather. This is the single most common cause of preventable slips on domestic property.
DIY cleaning stripes the surface
A hand-held pressure lance moved unevenly leaves permanent stripes in concrete and imprinted paving. Once striped, the only fix is a full re-clean with proper rotary equipment — after paying twice.

The detail most companies skip
Surfaces we clean
Block paving, concrete, imprinted (pattern-imprinted) concrete, Indian sandstone, natural stone flags, tarmac (with care), brick paths and porcelain. Method and pressure are adjusted per surface — imprinted concrete in particular is easy to strip if the wrong operator gets on it.
Kiln-dried sand — why it matters
After cleaning, block paving needs the sand in the joints replaced. Kiln-dried sand pours cleanly into every gap, locks the blocks together and gives weeds a much harder start. Skipping this step is why so many DIY cleans look great for six weeks and then unravel.
Sealing — when it's worth it
For block paving and Indian sandstone, a proper seal applied after cleaning can significantly slow algae return, deepen colour and protect against oil staining. Not every job needs it — we'll tell you honestly whether it's worth the cost on your specific paving.
Commercial forecourts & shared surfaces
For businesses we schedule around trading hours (evenings, early mornings, closed days) and provide method statements for shared or public-facing areas.
Frequently asked questions
How much does driveway cleaning cost?+
A standard 3-bed semi driveway typically falls between £120 and £300 depending on square metres, surface type and how bad the growth is. Re-sanding and sealing are quoted as optional add-ons.
How long does a driveway clean take?+
Most residential driveways are done in half a day to a day. Large driveways or patios combined with re-sanding can run to a full day plus.
Will pressure washing damage my block paving?+
Not when it's done with the right equipment. We use a rotary surface cleaner that spreads pressure evenly. It's the hand-held lance held too close that causes damage.
Do I need to re-sand after cleaning?+
For block paving, yes — cleaning removes the old joint sand and blocks need it to stay locked. It's a small add-on but it's what makes the finish last.
Can you get oil stains out?+
Most oil stains lift significantly with pre-treatment plus a hot rotary clean. Deep, old, soaked-in stains may lighten but not fully disappear — we'll set expectations honestly before starting.
Do you clean imprinted concrete?+
Yes, with care. Imprinted concrete is easier to strip than block paving, so we run reduced pressure and often recommend re-sealing afterwards to restore the colour.
Do you cover Swansea, Cardiff and Bridgend?+
Yes — we're across Port Talbot, Swansea, Cardiff, Bridgend, Neath and the wider South Wales area every week.
How long will it stay clean?+
With re-sanding and a seal, a domestic driveway typically stays looking sharp for 12–24 months before it needs another going-over. Shaded, north-facing paving regrows faster.
